Abstract
Tra le infezioni delle vie urinarie “non complicate”, la cistite (infiammazione della mucosa vescicale) colpisce almeno una volta nella vita il 60% delle donne e avviene comunemente per via ascendente, per migrazione attraverso l’uretra, di batteri per lo più di origine intestinale. I batteri responsabili sono E.coli, S.Saprophyticus e occasionalmente Proteus Mirabilis e Klebsiella spp. I sintomi presenti solo alquanto tipici e comprendo: pollachiuria, disuria, stranguria, dolore soprapubico, tenesmo vescicale e possibile sangue nelle urine. Come metodi profilattici alternativi fitoterapici, recenti ricerche hanno messo in luce alcune importanti proprietà di Vaccinium macrocarpon in quanto le proantocianidine prevengono l’adesione delle fimbrie di tipo P dei ceppi uropatogeni di E. coli alla mucosa vescicale.
Il principio attivo dell’Uva ursina, l’arbutina, viene idrolizzato a livello intestinale con liberazione di idrochinone che viene eliminato dalle vie urinarie: è proprio qui che svolge la sua azione disinfettante. È da evitare la concomitante assunzione di sostanze che acidificano le urine, pena la perdita delle proprietà antibatteriche. Ciò avviene anche in presenza della berberina nell’Idraste. Il sistema immunitario svolge un ruolo chiave: l’inulina dell’Echinacea angustifolia ed Echinacea purpurea, attiva la via alternativa del complemento e aumenta la produzione di sostanze chimiche immuni che attivano i macrofagi. La vitamina C, oltre a possedere caratteristiche antivirali e antibatteriche, svolge l’effetto di rafforzamento della resistenza dell’ospite.
Il trattamento deve iniziare dall’identificazione delle cause principali del sorgere della cistite, oltre che dall’assunzione di probiotici, tra cui il Lactobacillus acidophilus e il Bifidobacterium bifido. Nel trattamento della cistite bisogna evitare tutti gli zuccheri semplici, i carboidrati raffinati, i succhi di frutta non diluiti e gli allergeni alimentari. Si dovrebbe introdurre almeno 2 litri di liquidi, di cui almeno la metà dovrebbe essere costituita da acqua, e fibre alimentari di cibi integrali come frutta e verdura. È anche consigliato evitare bevande gassate, caffè e alcol.
