Abstract

La Leaky Gut Syndrome (LGS), letteralmente Sindrome dell’intestino gocciolante, è un aumento della permeabilità della mucosa intestinale causata da uno stato infiammatorio cronico alla cui origine vi sono molti fattori ambientali ed abitudini alimentari errate tipiche della vita di oggi. Tale aumento, più o meno importante, della permeabilità della mucosa intestinale fà sì che alcune particelle estranee (per esempio molecole di cibo non completamente digerite), dopo aver attraversato la mucosa intestinale, entrino nel flusso sanguigno provocando la reazione del Sistema Immunitario che le attacca generando una risposta immunitaria ed infiammatoria. Per questo motivo la LGS è considerata la principale causa delle intolleranze alimentari.

In realtà l’alterata permeabilità consente anche a tossine, batteri, funghi e parassiti, che in condizioni normali non potrebbero attraversare la mucosa intestinale, di superare la barriera protettiva e di entrare nel sangue. Se la quantità di queste sostanze anomale dovesse superare la normale capacità di detossificazione dell’organismo, si genererebbe un’alterazione della funzionalità di fegato e reni con relativa insorgenza di tipiche sintomatologie da intossinazione, tra cui: confusione, perdita di memoria, mente annebbiata, sudore al volto.

Negli USA tale perdita di impermeabilità della mucosa intestinale è conosciuta, studiata e fortemente sospettata di essere all’origine non solo delle intolleranze ed allergie alimentari ma di molti altri disturbi funzionali e patologie vere e proprie quali: malattia celiaca, candidosi, problemi digestivi, fatica cronica, asma, mal di testa, artrite, malattie autoimmuni ed addirittura alcuni studi hanno individuato una correlazione con l’insorgenza di psoriasi ed autismo.

Prova ne è che facendo una ricerca in www.google.it con leaky gut syndrome, vengono dati oltre 100000 riferimenti oltre all’indicazione di ricerche correlate con le seguenti voci: leaky bowel syndrome, leaky gut syndrome reumathoid arthritis, leak gut syndrome allergies, leak gut syndrome celiac diseases, leak gut syndrome autism, leak gut syndrome symtoms, leaky gut syndrome supplement, leaky gut syndrome eczema.

Ciononostante in Italia essa è pressocchè sconosciuta, in particolare presso la categoria medica.

Questa tesi si propone pertanto di raccogliere la letteratura esistente in materia al fine di approfondire le cause ma soprattutto le conseguenze, talvolta inaspettate, della LGS per imparare a conoscerla ma soprattutto a riconoscerla.

Infine vengono proposti alcuni protocolli naturopatici per prevenirla e/o tenerla sotto controllo.
